This law is called: The Adult Education and Literacy Law.
This law is called: The Adult Education and Literacy Law.
This law aims to eradicate illiteracy among all citizens in the Kingdom, regardless of their categories, and to prepare an enlightened, responsible citizen who can benefit himself and contribute to the advancement of his community.
The term "illiterates" in the application of this Law refers to:
Those who are unable to read and write, have surpassed the maximum age limit for admission to primary schools, and have not yet reached the age of forty-five, who are citizens of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
A comprehensive plan is to be developed to eradicate illiteracy within a maximum period of twenty (20) years, based on statistical data regarding the number of illiterates and their areas of concentration.
Funds allocated for financing literacy eradication projects and adult education include the following resources:
A- The amounts allocated annually by each ministry of the state and independent authorities in their budgets for this purpose.
B- The expenses imposed under this law for the purpose of literacy eradication on private companies and institutions.
C- The grants provided for literacy eradication projects and adult education.
D- Other resources that are decided to be added by a resolution from the Council of Ministers.
Programs and curricula for adult literacy and education are organized according to the patterns approved by the Ministry of Education and are implemented under its supervision.
Teachers may be selected for the purpose of eradicating illiteracy and educating adults from government employees or other qualified individuals or those who are being qualified for this purpose.
Employees working in adult literacy and education programs may be granted rewards commensurate with their efforts, which will be assessed and the conditions for entitlement will be determined by agreement between the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Finance.
