Chapter 1: Definitions

Article 1

Previous Amendments

The following words and phrases – wherever they appear in this Law – shall have the meanings indicated next to them unless the context requires otherwise:
A- The competent Minister:The head of the agency to which the military subject to the provisions of this Law belongs, meaning the President of the National Guard, or the Minister of Defense and Aviation and the Inspector General, or the Minister of Interior, or the Director General of Intelligence, or the Head of State Security.
B- Headgear Emblem:The emblem of the state, which consists of two crossed swords and a palm tree in the upper space between them, fixed within the unified frame.
C- The Unified Frame:A circular palm frond wreath topped by a crown, connected by a band at their lower ends.
D- Military Rank Insignia:The insignia indicating the rank of the military personnel, whether officer or enlisted.
E- Shoulder Badge:The insignia indicating command over the military sector or its branches.
F- Commendation Badge:The badge awarded to the military personnel in recognition of efforts made, such as medals, decorations, and military orders.
G- Equipment:Military supplies used by the military personnel during field work, training, maneuvers, or combat battles such as: bulletproof vest - ammunition pouch - helmet - helmet camouflage net - backpack pouch - storm goggles - waist belt holder - water canteen - field flashlight - field bedding - field jack.
H- Administrative Dress Uniform:The set of clothing worn by the military personnel during administrative work.
I- Field Dress Uniform:The set of clothing worn by the military personnel during field work.
J- Technical Dress Uniform:The set of clothing worn by the military personnel in technical facilities and warehouses.
K- Special Dress Uniform:The set of clothing worn by the military personnel in units that require performing special tasks.
L- Sports Dress Uniform:The set of clothing worn by the military personnel for physical education and sports competitions.

Chapter 2: The Emblem, Ranks, Military Insignia, Buttons, and Nameplate

Article 3

  • A. Ranks of Officers: Ranks shall be made of metal or embroidered as follows:

    • 1. Second lieutenant                one star

    • 2. First lieutenant           two stars

    • 3. Captain              three stars

    • 4. Major                   crown

    • 5. Lieutenant colonel            crown and star

    • 6. Colonel                       crown and two stars

    • 7. Brigadier general                       crown and three stars

    • 8. Major general                     crown and two crossed swords

    • 9. Lieutenant general                     crown, two crossed swords and star

    • 10. General                 crown, two crossed swords and two stars

  • B. Ranks of Non-Commissioned Officers: Ranks shall be made of stripes, except for master sergeant, which shall be either made of metal or embroidered, as follows:

    • 1. Private              no stripe

    • 2. Private first-class            one stripe

    • 3. Corporal                 two stripes 

    • 4. Vice-sergeant                three stripes

    • 5. Sergeant                 four stripes

    • 6. Sergeant first-class                      four stripes with a small horizontal stripe below

    • 7. Master sergeant                       embroidered or metal rectangle

  • C. Rank Insignia Slide: The slide shall be in solid form for metal ranks and in cloth for embroidered ranks.
