Regulation for the Transport of Passengers and Goods by Railway

Section 1: Definitions and General Provisions

Article (1) Definitions

  • The following terms and phrases shall have the meanings assigned to them in this tariff unless the presumption indicates otherwise.

    • 1-1 The word (Director General) means the Director General of the Saudi Arabian Government Railways Corporation or his representative.

    • 2-1 The phrase (Head of the Movement Department) means the employee responsible for the train movement department for passenger or freight transport or his representative.

    • 3-1 The word (Passenger) means any person traveling by railway.

    • 4-1 The word (Payment) means all that is paid for the transport of any passenger, animal, or goods.

    • 5-1 The word (Ticket) means any form that entitles the passenger to travel by train.

    • 6-1 The word (Corporation) means the Saudi Arabian Government Railways Corporation.

    • 7-1 The word (Goods) means all types of commercial goods, animals, vehicles, products, raw materials, and all types of manufactured items.

    • 8-1 The phrase (Car Load) means the weight or volume determined by the corporation for loading the car in tons, kilograms, pounds, or cubic feet.

    • 9-1 The phrase (Full Load) means goods shipped at the full car rate.

    • 10-1 The phrase (Partial Load) means goods shipped at the actual weight rate, which is less than the (full load).

    • 11-1 The word (Land) means the fees charged by the corporation for delaying transport cars beyond the authorized free period.

    • 12-1 The phrase (Single Shipment) means what is requested to be shipped from one station by one shipper for delivery to one consignee at one destination station.

    • 13-1 The phrase (Corporation Shipments) means all shipments belonging to the Saudi Arabian Government Railways Corporation.

    • 14-1 (Dispatch Station) is the shipping station.

    • 15-1 (Destination Station) is the station to which the shipment is sent.

    • 16-1 The word (Car) or (Cars) means any truck or trucks used for transport on the railway.

Article 2: Train Schedules

  • It is possible to view the departure and arrival schedules of trains to and from various stations by reviewing the schedules issued by the corporation and displayed at all stations. However, the corporation does not guarantee the arrival or departure of trains at their scheduled times and does not accept liability resulting from delays.
     

Article 3 Working Hours

  • The working hours at the stations for ticket issuance, cargo acceptance and delivery, and completion of all transactions are determined by arrangements set by the institution. For details, you can refer to the station master or the cargo officer at the respective station.

Article 5: Duties of Employees and Complaints

  • It is the duty of the institution's employees and users to provide all assistance to the public, and complaints about any misconduct, obstruction, or lack of attention by the institution's employees and users should be submitted to the station master, the head of the operations department, or the general manager.

Article 7 Gratuities

  • Gratuities or bonuses may not be granted to the employees or users of the institution. These employees and users are strictly prohibited from demanding or accepting any type of gratuities, bonuses, or any other amount apart from the wages prescribed under the applicable regulations and definitions.
