The words and phrases mentioned below - wherever they appear in this Regulation - shall have the meanings specified next to each of them unless the context requires otherwise:
The Authority: The Saudi Commission for Health Specialties.
The Law: The Law of the Saudi Commission for Health Specialties.
The Regulation: The Membership Regulation of the Saudi Commission for Health Specialties.
The Standards: Standards for practicing health professions and their specialties.
The Procedural Guidelines: Practical guidelines for implementing claims related to classification, registration, granting membership, and related services.
The Council: The Board of Trustees of the Authority.
The General Secretary: The General Secretary of the Authority.
The Specialized Councils and Committees: The specialized advisory councils and committees formed under this Regulation.
The Health Practitioner: Anyone who may be licensed to practice one of the health professions.
The Active Member: The health practitioner who holds active membership in the Authority.
The Classification: Determining the appropriate specialty or field for the applicant based on a number of procedures that include verification, professional equivalence, and professional assessment.
The Professional Group: A comprehensive group of professions that share a professional pathway concerned with providing tasks under a single scientific umbrella, such as the group of medical and surgical professions, dental professions, podiatric medicine and treatment professions, pharmacy professions, nursing and midwifery professions, rehabilitation and therapy specialties, diagnostic technology specialties, or other professional groups recognized by the Authority.
The Specialty: The professional category of the health practitioner who practices the profession within a specific professional scope, such as a physician, dentist, podiatrist, pharmacist, nurse, medical laboratory specialist, optometrist, psychologist, and podiatric therapy specialist.
The Sub-Specialty: A branch of the specialty that includes the main specialty and the sub-specialty and its branches.
The Health Qualification: The official approval by the relevant national authorities of the successful completion of an educational program in the health field, granted upon achieving the learning objectives of the program.
The Health Academic Degree: A degree awarded upon obtaining the health qualification at the level of (ISCED6) or (ISCED7) in one of the specialties or fields recognized by the Authority professionally, such as a bachelor's degree and its equivalent, a master's degree and its equivalent, and a doctorate and its equivalent. It is called the first degree if it does not require prior successful completion of any degree at the level of (ISCED6) or (ISCED7) to enter the relevant educational program, and it is called the second degree if it requires prior successful completion of any degree at the level of (ISCED6) or (ISCED7) to enter the relevant educational program, such as a master's degree and its equivalent and a doctorate and its equivalent.
The New Health Qualification: The health qualification that has not previously been recognized by the Authority professionally.
The Health Program: A coherent or sequential set of educational experiences and activities designed and organized to achieve predetermined learning outcomes or to complete a specific set of educational tasks extended over a sustainable period of time, resulting in successful completion leading to classification in one of the specialties or health fields accredited by the Authority.
The Professional Equivalence: The assessment of the health qualification from all its technical aspects compared to the educational ladder applied in the Kingdom in accordance with the standards for practicing health professions and their specialties.
The Experience: The duration of recognized professional practice in any field of specialization.
The Verification: The confirmation and validation of the authenticity of the documents and experiences submitted to or issued by the Authority.
The Professional Assessment: A statement of the evaluative result to determine the knowledge or skill of the health practitioner using a measurement tool such as a test or others.
The Professional Evaluation: Determining the extent to which the health practitioner has achieved the professional competencies, including the professional assessment using one of its tools.
The Registration: The process of enrollment in one of the Authority's registers, whether its general or subsidiary registers, including inclusion in one of the interstitial registers.
The Membership: Membership in the active Authority or honorary membership.
The Register: Any register established in accordance with the provisions of this Regulation.
Cancellation of Active Membership: The removal of the active member's name from the Authority's records.
Suspension of Active Membership: The temporary suspension of active membership.
