Article 2: The legal system of the territorial sea, the airspace above the territorial sea, its seabed, and subsoil.

  • 1- The sovereignty of the coastal state extends beyond its land territory and internal waters or its archipelagic waters if it is an archipelagic state, to a maritime zone adjacent known as the territorial sea.

  • 2- This sovereignty extends to the airspace above the territorial sea as well as to the seabed and subsoil beneath it.

  • 3- The exercise of sovereignty over the territorial sea is subject to the provisions of this Agreement and other rules of international law.
